Named Lectures

The following named lectures will take place at Sheffield Pathology 2024.

Wright Lecture

Tuesday 18th June, 11:45am - 12:30pm

The Sir Nicholas Wright Lecture was founded in 2016/2017 in honour of Professor Sir Nicholas Wright (previous President of The Pathological Society and major contributor to UK pathological research).

The objective of the Wright Lecture is to stimulate original investigative studies in the fields of cellular and molecular pathology and to encourage and reward young cellular pathology trainees in their research efforts.

The 2024 Wright Lecture will be delivered by Dr Matthew Pugh.

Doniach Lecture

Wednesday 19th June, 11:45am - 12:30pm

The Doniach Lectureship and Award was founded in 2003 in honour of the late Professor Israel Doniach. The objective of the Doniach Award is to celebrate the life long contribution of a Senior member of the Society to the science of Pathology and to the Scientific activity of the Pathological Society.

The 2024 Doniach Lecture will be delivered by Professor Neil Shepherd:

How good clinical research has improved the patient outcome in colorectal cancer.

Wyllie Lecture

Thursday 20th June, 11:45am - 12:30pm

The Wyllie Lecture & Medal has been established to mark the death of Professor Andrew Wyllie (2022) together with the 50 year anniversary (1972) of the seminal paper of Kerr, Wyllie and Currie that first described apoptosis, a major historical event for British pathology and the Pathological Society. Andrew Wyllie was President of the Pathological Society (2010). This lecture will be given by an early to mid-career academic pathologist (by application), as Andrew Wyllie always liked to encourage early and mid-career academic pathologists.
